Well surely the news regard Duchess Fergie must show what a greedy money grabbing lot the Royal Family are .
They are allways trying to have more and more money.
The present heir to the throne owns nasty slum like houses from which he gathers a nice sum in rent.
I'm disapointed that Keith Locke's private members bill did not get debated . Of course old Smile and Wave told us he wanted a republic then voted Keithe bill out. What a two faced smiler he is,

Hi foljks, I am guessing that the notion of a NZ republic is one of those things that in reality is only going to fire the imagination of politicaly minded people.
Theres probably a fair amount of apathy out there either way. I base that premise on the fact that the reintroduction by National of a partial British based honours system was seen as being of no consequence to the average person. That and the fact that Australian friends were heading that way after the dismissal of the Whitlam govt back in the 70's but still seems rather entrenched as a monarchy.
Thats not to say we shouldn't consistantly over time push the republican message, and perhaps working in with the Australian republican movements could be the key. As I don't think conservative NZers will ever make that move prior to Australia going down that route.

Can the Keith Locke bill be helped along with a petition among our members ? This bill is a chance to get our cause into the public debate

the sort of people who turn out to see celebs will no doubt want to see Wills but it doesn't necessarily mean they are all diehard monarchists.

Yeah - I hope you're wrong John. I say that in the nicest possible way.

Well we can expect a visit from Prince William next year . It will be interesting to see how he is recieved . I bet popcorn press will have a ball. Im hoping we can get some publicity for our cause.
I just cannot believe that our government still prescribes to this
nonsense in 2009 . Ton of usless mugs and nick naks filling the shops when we should be concentrating on exporting not importing cheap rubish mainly made in China . Of course I may be wrong and he may find we lost interest in "Royal Affairs" a long time back.Heres hoping.

Hi all,
I think the session at the conference went extremely well and that it was clear from the input that the aim of a NZ republic is high on the party's radar. Looking forward to reading the book.
